A Christmas Poem

Christmas is the most wonderful time,

Hearths full of fire and hearts full of rhyme,

Reading a story to family and friends,

Inside of our homes till the holiday ends,

Singing carols with laughter and joy,

Tense for the moment to break out the toys!

Most of us keep this picture in mind,

As a general view of this wonderful time,

Sometimes I stop, though, and take a deep breath,

In this time of solace, we are all very blessed.

Still, I notice something's not quite right,

And then I remember when I look to the Light.

Bustling about to buy presents and things,

Objects in wrappers and bows and strings,

Utterly foolish, were the words from my mouth,

To ignore what Christmas is really about!

Jesus, who came to earth as a babe,

Empowering sinners, destined for graves,

Stooping Himself to our level of worth,

Unmerited favor, through immaculate birth!

Salvation in Him, we can be born again!

Call on Him in faith and self-denial,

Only this way can we be reconciled

Much of this isn't really mentioned,

I can't stand all this foolish holiday tension.

None of it's wrong, celebrating and such,

Granted that we LIVE like Jesus did so much,

The reason I write this is not to be sour

Or to prove my own goodness or spiritual power.

Sadly, I'm one of these people who neglect,

Almost every year, I think about what I'll eat or what I'll get.

Vainly, I forget that Christmas is just a day,

Everything we do should be in honor of his name,

Ultimately He's my source of joy and happiness,

So what I have I give you, Lord, to know You, I've been blessed.
